SPECTRA takes over the Northern Bus Station, bringing one of NOPA’s defining features into focus: a DIY acousmonium, an orchestra of speakers built from equipment found at Armenian flea markets. The program includes: A CAGE IN SEARCH OF A NIGHTINGALE, an audiovisual journey into the world of Sergei Parajanov’s The Colour of Pomegranates by Daniel Bird, with previously unused film material and a live score by Elvin Brandhi; Michael Akstaller, with a performance using a specially developed speaker object and electric guitar tuned to the space; Ben Wheeler, weaving folk traditions of the South Caucasus into experimental electronics and lo-fi soundscapes; Malo Bisson (Bruit Bǎton), sending clarinet and wind sounds through an orchestra of speakers, bending and reshaping them in space; Jan Werner, the restless experimental mind, exploring the outer edges of sound; Sundogs (Sonia Saroya & Alexis Fernandes), with a playful collision of pulses, fragmented textures and improvised sonic dialogues; Simina Oprescu, tracing the invisible relationships between sound, space and matter. Doors open at 18. Come listen differently.
